micromagic systems has been working on hexapod walking robots since 2000. This started with the idea of producing a kit form hexapod robot with 3DOF for each leg. Although this kit was soon realised and ready for the general public, it was never released. Partly due to the high cost - a kit that contains 18 Servo's is never going to be cheap! We do still plan to release a kit version of the hexpaod, but currently our hexapod development is concentrated towards film and fun.
The same technology used in the V3 hexapod walking robot was utilised in a larger design built for "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". This hexapod was dressed to look like a six legged tortoise and was one of the creatures in Hagrid's hut. Although it only ended up in about five frames of the final film! However, it was used again in "Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire" have a close look in the back of Mad Eye Moody's class room...
Currently we are developing a high-spec aluminium frame hexapod using the new Robot servo's from Hitec. Check the news section for progress, and check the forum for discussions on servo's, robotics and control systems.
